What It’s Like Receiving Comments From Strangers On Social Media

A few months ago Em Ford, a makeup and beauty vlogger, started posting videos of herself without makeup. The internet response was overwhelming. There have been over 100,000 comments about her appearance. She made this short YouTube video to share her story and challenge society’s views on beauty. It’s powerful and definitely worth your time to watch.

“Over the past few months, I’ve received thousands of messages from people all over the world who suffer or have suffered from acne, an insecurity or self confidence issues.

I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we’re so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that It can be hard to remember the most important thing – You ARE beautiful.

You are beautiful – no matter how flawed you feel, no matter how upset you may about the way you look or how hard you find it to make friends, or be confident. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you’re not beautiful – not even yourself.”

I think you are beautiful, dont let these haters bring you down. These losers are looking for a barbie which in real life does not happen. You are still gorgeous and i really mean it. Id ask you out anyday and not even kidding.

I think you look more beautiful without makeup ;) my son suffers from bad acne and I discovered if he rubs extra virgin coconut oil on his face twice a day…it clears up within 3 to 4 days! It’s amazing and natural

I think that no matter what a person looks like, one must learn to accept oneself and not look to other people for self worth. I would say look to God for self worth. She is beautiful with and without makeup and it is her choice what she wants to wear.

wow! that video was very moving. and all those people who left those awful comments…I wonder what they look like. ugly on the inside is just plain ugly, and they are the ugly ones. it doe’s amaze me how people behave so poorly online and treat others in a way that they may not in real life.

I think this is wonderful to put out there and share. The only part that was missing is when she is not wearing makeup she is ot showing her beautiful smile, asmile brightens and naturally beautifies any face. When she is wearing makeup she is smiling, lighting up the room. Is this because she feels better about herself with the makeup?
It’s slightly confusing, I feel more smiles without the makeup would have made this video even more compelling. Everyone has beauty, it comes in all shapes and forms.
