January is always a time of new beginnings. I’ve never been a big resolution person. I like to make changes all throughout the year but there’s something special about January 1st. It’s definitely a time to step back and reflect on your life goals.
This year I’m embracing the idea of “new year, new me.” I’m committing to doing things that are healthy for my mind and body. This January is also when I launched my new business. So not only am I running my blog, pattern company, and social media company, I’m starting a completely new venture! So it’s doubly important that I take care of myself. When I’m super busy I find myself reaching for unhealthy food and skipping workouts. I’m sure you can’t relate. 😉
It’s not as easy as just saying it though! I’ve set a few goals to help keep me on track.
1. Commit to 20 minutes of exercise every day. That’s 7 days a week! I’m not talking about hard exercise but it’s got to be something! My favorite exercise is either walking, getting on the elliptical, or streaming a workout to my living room. In fact, I’m loving that there are so many ways to stream workouts now. I can pretty much get whatever type of workout I’m in the mood for. There really is no excuse now!
2. Have healthy food options available as snacks. I’m pretty good about having healthy meals. But there are times between meals when I cave and grab whatever is there. And sometimes that’s nothing good. The Del Monte Fruit Refreshers have been one of my favorite snacks lately. I like to grab them after a workout.
They’re fruit cups for adults. They combine exciting fruits with delicious, lightly sweetened fruit waters to create flavor combinations. Perfect for people seeking a healthy adult snacking option as a pick me up during their day. Yay for that! You can get these at your local grocery retail stores, Target and Walmart. Red Grapefruit in Guava Water is my favorite. It’s bold but not too sweet, refreshing flavor duo. They also come these other great flavors: Pineapple in Passion Fruit Water, Mandarin Oranges in Coconut Water, and Grapefruit & Oranges in Pomegranate Water. The fruit cups have no high fructose corn syrup and are a complete serving of fruit. If you’re watching your calories, they’re only 100 calories.
3. Plan meals. It really isn’t cliche. Planning your meals in advance is one of the best ways to keep yourself on track. When I don’t have anything planned I’m almost always going to make something that’s more in the category of “comfort food” rather than “healthy food.” So plan, plan, plan! I find that planning one week at a time works best for me but I know lots of people who have a 30 day food calendar and repeat it every month. Set it up one time and it makes life so much easier.
4. Be kind to myself. Yep, I’m not perfect. Sometimes I have bad days or fail but that’s just it, a bad day. So if you’ve got goals to stay healthy the most important thing you can do is to give yourself grace. A failure doesn’t mean you’re done! There’s always tomorrow.
Have you committed to a new year, new you?? What are your tips?
