Everyone loves cupcakes! Don’t they? They’re perfect for all occasions. Birthdays, holidays or just any day. What’s better than a regular cupcake? A cupcake with a surprise inside! These fun cupcakes are filled with fun.
I know all my kids love a filled cupcake. We’ve been known to bake for fun so I’m going to show them this recipe. I think it’s easy enough for kids to do as well. Younger ones will need adult supervision, of course, but this is a simple idea.
Make these cute surprise cupcakes! These would be so cute for birthdays, Cinco de Mayo, and any other holiday! Cake Journal made this fun video to teach us how to make surprise cupcakes. I hope you enjoy!
Supplies:
- Knife (serrated)
- Circle cutter (2cm / 3/4″)
- Knife (butter)
- Star piping tip
- Piping bag
- Cupcake to frost
- Mini m&m’s
- Sprinkles
- Jaffas (or crispy / peanut m&m’s)

You can use any cupcake recipe you like. Or use a box mix. I’ll be honest, 75% of the time we make cake from a box. It’s just quick and easy that way. There’s a lot less of a mess to clean up as well! I’m sure you’ve done the same!

How to make surprise cupcakes:
Wasn’t that fun? I think this is what mini M&Ms were made for. There’s no better use! Watching them pour out is very satisfying. These would be fun as a 4th of July treat. Get red, white and blue M&Ms and find a little flag for the top. Or make them for Christmas with red and green M&Ms. You could put a little mini candy cane in the top instead of the wafer. Or maybe a Peppermint Jojo from Trader Joes or a piece of peppermint bark.
Enjoy!
