My oldest daughter just turned nine and is less enthusiastic about her mom making her anything. Not because she doesn’t like the clothes. But just because her mom made them. She’s ahead of her time. Yesterday I tortured her with a new dress. Poor girl.
Red Dress by Amelie Clothing – this is a PDF sewing pattern
The fit is really great! My daughter is pretty narrow so when I tried it on her I noticed the armpits were really low so I sewed them up 2 inches on each side. That’s pretty easy to do with this pattern and I recommend it for this size.
I sewed the bias trim for the arm holes and neckline into a circle (sewing short ends right sides together) before attaching. I just prefer this method. Make sure to measure the length of bias trim you need first by measuring the neck opening or arm openings.
tiny triangles from Girl Charlee
red interlock from Michael Miller
What I would do differently:
Nothing, other than what I already mentioned. The neckline and length are perfect!
1.5 hours – This pattern is just a front & back piece, the bow pieces and the bias for the arm holes and neckline. This goes together very quickly if you can pay it your undivided attention it will take you between 1-2.5 hours depending on your skill.
I used a contrast fabric for the back panel. A little pop of color with the black and white triangles.
I love that this dress is unique and fun. Perfect for spring and summer! Pair with some leggings for a complete outfit!
