Less than one week until Easter but I’m making dresses still, of course! It wouldn’t be a holiday without last minute sewing involved! I whipped up this cute Darling Daisy Dress for my 5 year old daughter and she was so excited when I let her wear it as soon as it was done. She’ll likely ask me to make another just like it. Or two or three. We got to give it a test run at our neighborhood Easter egg hunt yesterday.
The best part about this particular dress is that it is part of the Sew Like My Mom SURPRISE Pattern Tour!
A bunch of us got together to throw our friend, Melissa, a surprise pattern tour because we know you’ll love her patterns. She has NO idea we’re doing this and we can’t wait for her to see all our posts! So please, do us a favor and leave her some kind comments. The full list of tour bloggers is at the bottom of this post.
Darling Daisy Dress. Available in 3mo. – 16 yrs.
Size 6. No adjustments in size. My daughter is just growing into ready to wear size 6 and this dress is very consistent with that size.
The fit is really good. I love that it’s sleeveless but doesn’t gap anywhere or show too much skin in places it isn’t meant to.
I made the dress with 2 tiers. omitting the third tier. I only had 1 inch knit elastic (rather than the 1/2 inch non-roll elastic the pattern calls for).
This is a quilting weight cotton. There are no markings on the selvage so I assume I got it at a discount shop in L.A. somewhere.
What I would do differently:
I’d definitely go for the 1/2 inch elastic next time. I was out and the 1 inch works fine but is a bit bulkier than the pattern intends.
The length is exactly perfect for her! I can definitely envision her living in this style of dress all summer.
See the other patterns on the tour!
