It's November and I'm kicking off the 12 Days of Christmas Sewing series with an easy DIY merry pillow cover tutorial! This cute christmas tree pillow tutorial is so quick you can have one of your own in 30 minutes.
This simple merry christmas pillow will look great anywhere!
Supplies for the Merry Pillow Tutorial:
- 1 rectangular pillow. I used the IKEA FJÄDRAR pillow. It is 16×24" (40×60 cm) but you can use any rectangular pillow.
- Neutral color fabric. I cut mine 16" by the width of the 44" bolt of fabric. Leaving the selvage on the fabric means you don't need to hem the ends. I prefer my fitted pillow cases to be slightly smaller than my pillow. Keep reading.
- A few scraps for trees
- Red thread
- water soluble fabric marker
Print this "merry" and trace it onto your fabric. Download Merry
Keep in mind where you want the "merry" to be. Your pillow case will be the width the long edge of your pillow. Fold the two ends over each other, overlapping. See photos below. Determine where you want your word and trees to be.
Cut out some trees from your scraps. Wing it. These don't need to be perfect! Stitch them on using your favorite applique method. I just pinned these well and stitched around the edge. I wanted a bit of a rough look to the edges of the trees. You may prefer to use a heat and bond to adhere them or a satin stitch on the edges so there is no fraying.
Fold your fabric back over again (right sides together) and sew along the two long edges. Your finished pillow case should be about an inch smaller in width and length than your pillow form. Turn right side out and stuff your pillow into it!
